Middle Tennessee Nephrology has been serving the Middle Tennessee area since 2009, when our practice first began. Our goal is to provide the highest possible kidney care in a very efficient and personal way. We present the national standards of care to our patients and let the patients be involved, very closely, in the decision making process. We strive to be flexible with our scheduling and always keep our patients' interests in mind.
We take care of several stages of kidney disease from stage 1 to stage 6. We usually see patients who have Stage 3 chronic kidney disease or higher (kidney filtration <60 ml/min or GFR <60 ml/min), unless they have other kidney problems like proteinuria (leaking protein in urine), calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium or acid-base problems in the blood.
We are especially interested in helping the primary care doctors with blood pressure control, especially resistant hypertension and also make recommendations regarding safe medicines for management of two of the most important cause of kidney failure, diabetes and hypertension.
We also manage high parathyroid levels and related Vitamin D problems, that are often seen secondary to kidney disease, and can be efficiently treated especially in early stages.
We also give dietary advice regarding salt and mineral intake and give recommendations on protein intake and assess fluid and volume status.
We help the primary care doctors and the cardiologists in managing the delicate fluid and volume status in heart failure patients, especially the ones that do not have perfect kidney function.
We also take care of patients that have a difficult time with controlling fluid accumulation in the legs and other areas.
We provide dialysis to patients who have end stage kidney failure, and are very experienced in providing home dialysis services as well as in center dialysis. Home dialysis allows some patients a level of privacy, freedom, and independence that they may prefer.
